Planning Can Be Scary! But It Doesn’t Have to Be. Tricks-and-Treats from Momentum

Many people are slow to start life-changing projects because of a common setback: fear 😱. We totally get it, especially when there are so many other things to get done in a day.

Lucky for you, Momentum was made to help support your productivity in a way to balance and manage most of it (if not all of it) in one place.

We know planning can be scary, but it doesn't have to be. Through methods like time blocking and the five projects rule, a lot of what feels daunting can feel like a more natural planning process.

Momentum is also full of features to make project planning a breeze. But unlike a haunted house, with things that pop up unexpectedly 👻, charting your progress and tasks are much more manageable.

Even when things do pop up, we’ve figured out a system for that (Hi there, “emergent” tasks).

We are here to help you face your fears when it comes to planning. In the spirit of Halloween, here are some of our favorite Momentum "tricks" (basically cool tips and ways to maximize your Momentum experience), as well as "treats" (feel good features and added bonuses).

Tricks

Color coding 🌈

Color can help you quickly identify different aspects of your tasks. Adding a bit more flair to your projects with color coding so you know what tasks relate to what projects, or use different colors to denote what tasks need a focus, admin, social or recovery block. Color code any way you like to make what matters most stand out!

Use the time horizons ⏳

Momentum helps you map out your goals through various time horizons - daily, weekly, monthly, quarterly, and yearly. You can quickly go from one horizon to another at the top of your planner, from big picture planning, to the smaller day-to-day tasks.

You’re also able to view up to three horizons at a time; for example, when viewing your projects on the monthly level, you’ll also be able to see the smaller tasks that make it up at the weekly level. At the same time, you’ll be able to glance at your quarterly horizon, so you can see how the smaller horizons level up to the larger ones, and vice-versa.

Sync your Google calendar 🗓

No need to toggle between calendars - we’ve updated the app so you can synch your Google calendar with Momentum and have all your tasks, events, and more in one place, so you can manage your time your way. We’ll be adding other calendar applications in the future, so stay tuned!

Treats

Crossing off your finished tasks ✅

We know it feels great to watch an analog, paper to-do list get smaller and smaller as you cross off things you’ve completed. The same positive psychology is what we use in the Momentum app as well. Once a task is done, it’s not gone forever from your list - it’s crossed off, so you can see how much you’ve accomplished along the way.

Personalizing your dashboard 👩‍🎨

Are you Minimal-chic, or a Sparkly type? This is YOUR virtual planner, and we want it to feel that way as much as possible. So go ahead and personalize it, baby!

Check out "Appearance” in your Settings, and you'll find: color themes, preferred planner view, time format (12- or 24- hour), time zone, week start day (Monday or Sunday), and your working hours (when you start and end your day).

Momentum Affiliate program 💸

Extra cash is definitely a treat, so if you are a fan of Momentum, and think it’s a useful tool others would benefit from as well, consider becoming a Momentum Affiliate. It’s super easy to join up and you’ll be a huge part of building a stronger Momentum community, too.
